CARLISLE — The Carlisle Conservation Commission advanced cranberry bog restoration planning following consultation with the state Department of Environmental Resources. After an August 14 site visit, DER indicated flexibility on project design and access to significant grant funding. A Priority Project application cycle may open by December, a rare opportunity occurring only every few years.
Conservation Administrator Meghan Sullivan was authorized to pursue information on comparable restoration sites and organize stakeholder input. Volunteers led by resident Jonathan DeKock completed removal of 164 baskets of water chestnut from Greenough Pond, achieving more than 99 percent eradication.
